As a clinical psychologist, published author, and mother to two cheeky young children, I get it. I’ve spent YEARS researching and filtering through the noise online, so you don’t have to.
Ah, sharing and toy battles! This is such a huge stressor for us parents and for good reason. It’s stressful to be around conflict and our instinct is often to encourage our child to release the beloved toy and give it to their friend or sibling. I get it. Navigating toy battles and teaching our children the joys of sharing is tough work.
In this video, I break down why sharing is developmentally inappropriate for young children (toddlers, preschoolers and even school age children), how to respond when another child takes your child’s toy, what to do if YOUR child takes another child’s toy, story time of my two toddlers navigating toy battles and how I responded, and a brief Q&A.
Here’s the breakdown:
Part 1: Things to consider when it comes to sharing – 1:00
Part 2: What to do if another child takes your child’s toy – 6:23
Part 3: What to do if your child takes another child’s toy – 9:10
