As a clinical psychologist, published author, and mother to two cheeky young children, I get it. I’ve spent YEARS researching and filtering through the noise online, so you don’t have to.
How are some things to consider when trying to explain the Coronavirus to your child. Keep in mind, it’s ultimately your judgement call on when and how you approach this conversation with your child about COVID-19. These are ideas and statements to try, but ultimately you know your child best. You will need to gauge how much they can comprehend, what they already know (if anything), and how much they are affected. Keep your language simple and consider starting with, “What do you know about the Coronavirus?” to help gauge what they already know and what they will need more information about. Don’t overwhelm them with too much information all at once and keep in mind these conversations will likely be ongoing.
